Issue –
Currently when we update list items we are informed when the specific bookmark is being used is on multiple lists. As we are usually updating listed created by others (e.g. switching to a print or e edition of a book when it’s available or switching to the newest edition) we need to know when there is a student note, library notes, etc. on the other bookmarks the system is offering to update in bulk for us, currently is in onerous having to check the lists.
Solution -
We would like that at the point of being offered to update the other items in bulk, for the system to notify us of those lists where the item has notes on it on other lists. We would expect that it would be in the same notification we currently see regarding the bookmark appearing on other lists, BUT, that we would see it stating that other lists the item appears on have a note, show what the note states AND link to those lists separately. It would also give us the option to update all items, OR a tick/check box next to each to select which (if any) we would want to update within the pop-up window without having to go and look at the list separately.
Scenario requested :
A new edition has come into stock, our staff member goes through to update all of the RLOs where that older edition exists to point students to the newer edition. During this process, where an academic has bookmarked the item and added it to many lists, the notification of 'this bookmark is on many lists, would you like to update all' appears, allowing us the option to make a bulk change and save time. However, because we don't know if the academics points students to specific chapters or passages of the book, or stipulates this edition on the notice to students or our staff, we can't reliably use the bulk option since this might cause confusion to students and point them to the wrong place, we have to go and find the other instances and check before updating them individually. We want to be able to see any notes at the point of the bulk change being offered for all other instances for the bookmark existing on lists and choose what can be updated and which ones will need investigation or communication with the academic. before an update or change.
Hope this helps Georgia
Hi Jill, thanks for your idea. To understand this further, please can you explain a scenario where this would have been useful for you. Best, the Product Team
