We are trying to get the Talis bookmarking extension rolled out onto our staff image, meaning that staff don't need to install it themselves on university devices - it's just there ready for them to use.
The issue we have is that the bookmarking tool is forcing links to go to the select institution page, even when they are clicking ANY link for any reason. this is very frustrating for those doing testing AND our IT department as rules it unnecessarily frustrating and significantly impacting on users experience for them to roll it out on the staff image. It's also worth noting that staff image is ALL staff so academics and professional services, who will never have heard not need the bookmarking extension.
I would like to propose a development that will fix this issue and allow those institutions wanting to roll it out on their network, wouldn't have this issue.
3 options I can think of, because I'm not a developer so don't know what's possible.
1 - have an inactive or off option on the extension that can be deployed as off, and it would only push you to the screen for institution when switched to active
2 - It only pushes to the institution select page when you click on the extension if it's not there already
3 - Have a separate extension for this where the institution is added before deployment in an area of the code that wouldn't get overwritten when any development or enhancements in future.
Obviously if you are aware of somewhere that have rolled out on their staff image without this issue - I'm happy to hear about workarounds I can pass to my IT department.
