I believe that the Gravatar integration is not widely used and is a historic integration that didn't appeal to the masses. We have added instructions to our user information documentation about it but would rather we didn't have to if no one uses it (someone is bound to ask if we didn't). Perhaps removing the Gravatar integration and replacing it with a simpler photo upload or user initials icon would be a better idea?
