Where we have a title in both print and ebook format, I'd love if we could make bookmarklet pick up the LCN for the print version, so we get copy and availability info in the bookmark, but also pick up the 856 $u URL or the Uresolver link for the ebook. (We could just tick 'online resource' on the print bookmark and make it use OpenURL, but this wouldn't take students direct to the ebook platform...)
Hi thanks for your follow ups and votes. We have not forgotten this idea.
Bookmarking theme is split in to a few phases and we are looking at accessibility & resource types initially.
I have scheduled reviews all of the bookmarking ideas in the next few weeks, including this one, with our technical team in order to understand which are technically feasible. I will be able to provide initial updates on specific ideas at that point, such as if any ideas we cannot implement at this time. We will then be going in to a bookmarking redesign mode in September to improve overall usability hitting as many improvements as we can.
It's great to see the comments from different customers -very helpful thank you. Stay tuned! And do look for our Customer Success Announcements, Marketing newsletters, blogs, and upcoming product update webinars for more detail.
Kind regards,
Kate
Any update on this planned development please? It's still very much wanted.
Is this still planned for release early-mid 2024?
We'd love items to be able to use the 2 LCNs (or more) to connect students with all the related records in our Library Management System
As Kathy says, it would be nice to be able to merge print and e-books in a bookmark but only if the bookmark can hold both LCNs. The print to enable holdings display and e-book to enable updating of URLs and removing content as and when packages and platforms change.
Yes please, this would be most helpful!
Currently we have to manipulate the system (by manually adding the eBook link to the bookmark of the print item) to enable both a View Online button and Print availability to display on the same bookmark.
While this is not best practice, it is a workaround to condense lists.
Hello! Thank you for posting this request and comments :-).
I am happy to report we have added this to an upcoming bookmarking release for further estimation and prioritisation. This is currently planned for early-mid 2024 after some big work in flight.
Kind regards, Kate
Our library system doesn't have Uresolver, nevertheless we would love the ability to easily link to both print and ebook (which are separate marc records in our ILS) on one bookmark. We want to have the LCN for the print record so we can easily identify what's on a reading list when weeding our print collection and getting circ stats, etc. But, we also want the LCN for the ebook record so the student is linked to an ebook first, and so we can keep track of the links when ebook packages get updated. It's a conundrum we haven't really resolved. Anything Talis can do to make this easier this would be welcomed.
